DIY handmade birthday card.
Something that I really enjoy doing is making my own birthday cards. I do not know if you recognize yourself in my dilemma but having to choose out of 10.000 cards and at the end not being able to choose something cause there are just too many to choose from! Or, you send a card to a newborn baby only to come by to visit the baby and see YOUR card together with five other just the same cards, hanging from strings on the wall. Well, there goes that originality!
To try to end these chances of finding your original idea already used up by other just as original minds, I prefer to draw and design my own DIY birthday cards. Or other DIY cards too for that matter! This gives the card a personality that no other card that you can buy in any store will ever have. It also makes the receiver happy as you have put greatest effort into making something that fits them, their need at the moment and their personality.
This is also a fun way for me to practise my handlettering. As I am only starting out, my lines are so wobbly and all over the place! Also my thicker lines need some practise smoothing out! But practise makes perfect they say, so that is what I will do. Practise, practise, practise. To be honest, my lines are a lot less wobbly then when I started out a few months ago! Yay practise! So how often do I practise you might wonder? I practise every single day. Mostly I make up my own font and practise making different words or my favourite, practise by drawing quotes!
This is where Pinterest comes in handy. I love pinterest because it has a very deep well of ideas. It never seems to drain but fills up with more and more ideas! On my pinterest account which you can find HERE, I spend every day searching for fun, beautiful and inspirational pins that I use to practise from.
So future posts, I will possibly throw a lot of handmade cards at you! I hope you do not mind and that my cards will give you inspiration to also make your own cards!
